‘Trees for Life’ can be planted in memory of a loved one, or to commemorate a special occasion like a birth or an anniversary, or to celebrate an event such as a wedding or graduation. Some people just want to make a contribution to their local environment and plant a tree for fun.
You can sponsor as many trees as you like, or just one. The best thing is that you can come and plant it yourself with family and friends, and it will be planted in a public park which you can visit at any time.
Each tree you sponsor costs £25. In return, you will receive a personalised certificate and an invitation for your group to come to our annual sponsors' tree-planting event in Birmingham during the planting season - November to March.
You don’t need to come and plant your tree yourself – if you wish, we can plant it for you.
To sponsor a tree, download the sponsorship leaflet, then complete and return it with your cheque to the address on the form.
IF YOUR TREE SPONSORSHIP IS A GIFT FOR A SPECIFIC OCCASION PLEASE CAN YOU ENSURE THAT YOU GIVE US AT LEAST 2 WEEKS NOTICE TO ENABLE US TO RECEIVE YOUR INFORMATION, PROCESS THE CERTIFICATE, AND FOR THE POST TO DELIVER IT!
(We are a very small, very part time, team and are not always available to send personalised gift certificates out at really short notice - thank you, your co-operation is much appreciated).
Sponsoring a tree through Just Giving
Alternatively, you can now sponsor a tree online through the Birmingham Civic Society's Just Giving page. If you use Just Giving to make your payment, we need you to follow the instructions below please in order that we can process your tree sponsorship correctly:
1. We still need you to download and complete the sponsorship form so that we have all your details for sending the certificate, invitation etc, so please complete the form, scan it and email the scan back to us firstname.lastname@example.org
2. To pay online via Just Giving:
Click on http://www.justgiving.com/birminghamcs/ and click again on DONATE.
Put the figure of £25 (or more if you want to sponsor more than one £25 tree) in the amount box, and click on Donate Now. In the 'Leave a message box' please add 'BTFL Plant a Tree for Life sponsorship' and please be sure to write your name in the name box - this is not optional for tree sponsorship as we need to know who has paid the money to know who the tree is for! We will then link your payment with your emailed sponsorship form and process the sponsorship accordingly.
Come and Plant Your Tree
You, and/or the recipient of your gift, will receive an invitation to a planting event in Birmingham during the planting season. We will tell you the date (a Saturday), location and time of the planting session, including travel and parking information. Family and friends (young or old) are all welcome to come along. If the date is not convenient for you, and you would still like to plant your tree, we can invite you to the next planting event (which may be the following winter).
At the planting event, the young trees and spades* are provided. Help will be on hand for those who need it. All you need to bring is stout footwear (wellies are good!), warm clothes and gloves. Don’t forget your camera!
Birmingham City Council owns the parks, river walkways and other open spaces where trees will be planted, and will be responsible for looking after the trees and the woodlands in the future. As all the land is publicly owned, you can visit your tree(s) at any time.
* Bring your own spade if you have one!
