How BTFL Works
The City Council contributes a sum of money annually to the project, which pays for some of the new trees, and through the Civic Society, a Registered Charity, BTFL works to secure sponsorship from companies and individuals to plant more trees and develop new projects with local schools and communities. In 2012 BTFL became one of the first beneficiaries of the Government's national tree planting campaign, The Big Tree Plant.
All our projects are on land owned by Birmingham City Council - public parks and open spaces. Each summer we work with the Council's Constituency Parks Managers, Rangers and Friends Groups to develop a list of tree planting projects in parks across the city.
Winter is the best time to plant trees (while they are dormant), and between December and March we work with the Council's Park Ranger Service and Woodland Team to organise the tree planting events at parks and open spaces all over Birmingham. We are also helped by the Council's grounds maintenance contractors. Wherever possible, we involve local people and schools to help to plant the trees, and invite local councillors and other interested people to come along too.
